Privacy policy
This policy describes how Community Shed (“we”, “us”) handles personal information when you use our websites, apps, and related services (“Services”).
Information we collect
- Account details: such as your name, email address, password (stored securely), and profile preferences you choose to provide.
- Communities and teams: information about groups you belong to, invitations, roles, and activity needed to run shared spaces.
- Listings and borrowing: descriptions, photos, availability, messages exchanged about borrow requests, loans, and returns, and related metadata (for example timestamps and status).
- Support and safety: content you submit when reporting a problem or abuse, and correspondence with administrators.
- Technical data: device and connection information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, diagnostic logs, and cookies or similar technologies used for security, preferences, and analytics where enabled.
How we use information
We use personal information to provide and improve the Services, authenticate users, personalise your experience, facilitate lending and messaging between members, send service and transactional emails (and optional notifications where you have agreed), enforce our terms and community standards, detect fraud and abuse, comply with legal obligations, and understand how the product is used in aggregate form.
Sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to operate the Services: with other members of communities you join (for example your profile and listings visible in those spaces), with service providers who host infrastructure, send email, or provide analytics under strict agreements, when required by law or to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger or acquisition subject to this policy or equivalent protections.
Retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. We may retain certain records longer where required for legal, tax, or dispute resolution purposes, or in anonymised form for analytics.
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure; we encourage strong passwords and caution when sharing sensitive details in messages.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Services are used. You decide which optional categories to allow when you first visit, and you can change your mind at any time using the button below.
- Strictly necessary: required for sign-in, security, team selection, and core navigation. These are always on.
- Functional: remember preferences such as theme and layout choices.
- Analytics: aggregate usage measurement via Google Analytics 4 and session insights via Microsoft Clarity. These tools are only loaded after you accept this category.
- Marketing: reserved for tools that help us reach new community members. Nothing in this category is loaded today.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. You can manage much of this from your account and product settings. You may also contact us as described below. If you are unhappy with our response, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Children
The Services are not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required in your region. We do not knowingly collect personal information from those children.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the Services.
Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact your community organisers or the support channels described in the product. If you operate this deployment, ensure contact details are easy for members to find.
