Terms and conditions
These terms govern your use of Community Shed’s websites, apps, and related services (“Services”). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Community Shed operates solely as a technical platform that helps community members find each other and coordinate lending. We do not own, inspect, insure, certify, or guarantee any item listed on the Services, and we are not responsible for the condition, safety, legality, or suitability of anything lent or borrowed.
Community Shed accepts no liability for loss, damage, theft, injury, disputes, unsatisfactory experiences, or any other harm arising from lending or borrowing between members, including anything communicated or agreed in messages on the Services.
You use the Services and enter into any arrangement with other members at your own risk. Always use your best judgement: meet in safe circumstances where appropriate, verify items and people to your own satisfaction, respect local laws, and stop if something feels wrong.
Eligibility and your account
You must be able to form a binding contract where you live. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
Acceptable use and community standards
You agree not to misuse the Services—for example, no unlawful, harassing, fraudulent, or discriminatory conduct; no posting malware or scraping in a way that harms the platform; no impersonation; and no circumventing safety or access controls. We may suspend or remove accounts or content that violate these expectations or that we reasonably believe puts members or the Services at risk.
Listings, borrows, and messages
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you post (including photos and descriptions) and for your interactions with other members. Any loan or handoff is strictly between you and the other member; Community Shed does not supervise handovers, mediate private disputes, or hold deposits unless a future feature explicitly says otherwise. You remain solely responsible for complying with laws that apply to you (including taxes or consumer rules, where relevant).
Intellectual property
Community Shed and its branding, software, and content we create are owned by us or our licensors. You retain rights to content you submit; you grant us a licence to host, display, and process that content as needed to run and improve the Services.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Services are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind except where the law does not allow exclusions. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Community Shed and its directors, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services or any member interaction—including lending and borrowing—as further explained in the notice above.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and indemnify Community Shed against claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Services, your content, or your violation of these terms or applicable law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable in your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country say otherwise.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and, where appropriate, give you notice through the Services or by email. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Contact
For questions about these terms, contact your community organisers or the support channels described in the product. These terms do not create a lawyer–client relationship and are not legal advice.
